Legal billing for Hong Kong law firms

Turn recorded time into a client bill your team can review.

ProxiLegal brings matters, fee earners, time records and billing into one workspace. Keep the work behind each bill close to the figures and wording your firm sends to its client.

A clearer route from matter to bill

A bill often starts with work recorded by several people: a solicitor’s attendance, a colleague’s preparation and an external fee note. ProxiLegal helps your firm bring these records together before preparing a client bill.

It is designed for Hong Kong general-practice firms with 1–20 fee earners. The workspace interface supports English and Traditional Chinese, with separate user accounts and access roles for colleagues.

How the billing workflow fits together

  1. Open the client and matter

Keep the client details and matter reference in the workspace so later time entries and bills have a clear context. Record work against the appropriate matter and fee earner.

  2. Record time and review unbilled work

Enter the time actually spent and a useful description of the work. Review unbilled entries before adding them to a draft, so your team can check the work included and the person responsible.

  3. Prepare the bill and check the details

Bring recorded work into an itemised draft. Check the figures, descriptions and your firm’s details before exporting a supported document to PDF or Word. The draft remains subject to your firm’s review.

Keep external fees connected to the matter

Counsel and suppliers can submit fee notes through an invitation-based external portal. Your team reviews and approves the submission in the workspace. This gives you a place to check incoming fees alongside the matter’s other work.

For a separate costs-assessment workflow, see Bill of Costs and taxation preparation. A client bill and a taxation draft serve different purposes; the firm decides which document is appropriate.

What to bring to a billing demo

Use a fictional matter with two fee earners, a few time entries and an example external fee. We can walk through recording the work, reviewing what is unbilled and preparing a draft. Please leave real client names and confidential documents out of the demo request.

If your firm has a particular bill layout or approval process, describe the workflow in your request so we can discuss what is currently supported.

Questions about legal billing

Does this replace client-account bookkeeping?
No. ProxiLegal’s advertised workflow covers practice records, time and billing. It is not a replacement for client-account bookkeeping, bank reconciliation or your firm’s accounting controls.
Can support colleagues use the workspace?
Yes. Colleagues use individual accounts with assigned permissions. The proposed subscription capacity is based on active fee earners; secretary and support accounts are included without an additional seat fee.
Can we try it before choosing a subscription?
The standard trial lasts 14 days and begins when you create your firm. No credit card is needed. Subscription pricing is being finalised and will be confirmed before a paid subscription starts.
